      USAT Scoring
The 2005 Intermediate Distance ITU World Championship and the 2005 Short Course Duathlon National Championship were used to determine first tier pacesetter’s for the ’06 season.  time.
Once the first tier was determined, they looked at the ’05 races the first tier pacesetters competed in order to determine a second tier.
Second tier races were determined by any USAT sanctioned race that a minimum of 5 first tier pacesetters competed in.  This same process was used to determine third tier, etc.
The significance of the pacesetter system is to provide a “par” time for each event in ’06.  The “par” time is the projected winning
      The Equation
The “par” time is calculated by taking the pacesetter’s finish time in the race multiplied by the pacesetter’s ranking and then divided by 100.
They then drop the top and bottom 2 percent in order to create the most accurate “par” time as possible.
Once the par time has been calculated, it can be used to calculate a ranking for every participant.
This is done by taking the “par” time in minutes divided by the member’s finishing time and then multiplied by 100 to calculate the athlete’s event ranking.
